Hello!

I really don’t have much experience in making signatures and whatnot, so I’m sorry if this is actually a dumb question but please bear with me :P
So, I want to change the background images for my profile and signature. But, when I preview the images in my profile or sig, the site zooms them in by a lot in the top left corner for some reason. To be specific, they are pictures that I took myself with my phone camera, which I think is good quality, so there’s a larger pixel count.
For my profile background, I just crop it how I like, and put it up there. I didn’t have as much of an issue with my current background as of typing this.
For my signature, I first cropped it in a long rectangle shape like a signature, and then reduced the pixel count(for the 190 pixel height limit). I have had problems with my sig before, but the site just cropped it in a way I liked.

Why are the images displaying this way? Is there maybe some sort of optimal size for images? The pixel count? I was considering lowering the pixel count for my profile background too, but I don’t want to lose image quality.
Again, I don’t have much experience with this stuff so please keep that in mind
