Welcome to the first ever PixPet Secret Santa gift exchange!


Years really pass fast lately. And the quicker years pass, the quicker our favourite season, Christmas season, starts!

There are a lot of things going on during Christmas season, depending on your location and culture! Here in Germany, it all usually starts around mid-August when first stores start selling Christmas food. Sometimes even Christmas decorations (at least you can't say you didn't have a chance to get those tree decos!).

But there is one thing that is always the same, no matter where you live: getting and giving gifts on Christmas Eve (depending on where you live either on Dec 24th or Dec 25th, and even that changes at times.)

In some communities on the internet, there's another tradition: Secret Santas!

If you don't know what a Secret Santa is, it's simply an event where all participants will be assigned to another as their "Secret Santa", and their job is to gift them something!
So why is it a secret?
It's a secret because while you will be told who you are giving a gift to, you won't be told who is sending YOU a gift! In some places, when the event ends, participants even get to guess who their Santa is! And as you may guess... I want to bring this tradition to the PixPet community!

Though, due to the nature of a Secret Santa, there will be some strict rules:


  • In order to participate, you have to be 18 years or older.


  • You have to provide correct information.


  • Price target for your gift is $25 (recommendation). Also, it should be a physical gift, digital gifts are not allowed for now.


  • At the end of the event, you are required to delete all information about your assigned participant that you received.


  • Proof of Shipping (Tracking ID or a photo of your shipping receipt) has to be provided to @Takkju.


  • If you sign up and decide you would not like to participate, you must let @Takkju know as soon as possible. After the registration period ends, you cannot withdraw your form.


  • If you sign up and do not withdraw your form, you will still need to participate and send out your gift to your assigned participant.


  • If you need some information from your giftee for their gift, communication has do be done via messaging @Takkju. It wouldn't be a secret anymore if you contacted them yourself.


    • Breaking these rules will result in penalties that range from suspension from all future events to a permanent ban of your PixPet account.


The registration period will be from the date of this post until Nov 15th, 12 p.m. UTC. After this, you will be assigned to your secret santa over that weekend.


Also, I'll provide a few tips for shipping your gift:


  • The earlier you ship, the better! We all know our parcel services… sometimes they are quick, and sometimes they take their sweet time in shipping their stuff. The package you are shipping isn’t required to arrive exactly on December 24/25.


  • You should make sure your recipient doesn’t open the gift right away – how you ensure this is up to you; you can mark the box, leave a note, write “SECRET SANTA” on the package; the possibilities are endless!


  • You should make sure the contents of your package won’t be damaged during the shipping process. Using newspaper or bubble wrap will likely do the trick; If you don’t have any bubble wrap, go buy some! If you don’t have the money, newspaper will work fine; be generous with how much you stuff around your gift to ensure it won’t jostle around and get bumped and bruised during the trip


  • If you need some information from your giftee, don't contact them directly, otherwise it's not a secret anymore. Instead, either write @Takkju a personal message here on PixPet, or contact them via Discord. Your message will get forwarded anonymously and you will recieve the reply soon after.


… and finally, a few legal things!


  • Personal Data: We will only use your data and personal information for the Secret Santa event. It won’t be used for advertising, it won’t be sold or given to anyone outside the PixPet Community. While we will follow best practices to keep your information safe, it will be provided to one user (your "Santa") for the purpose of the event. After the event has ended, we will delete all provided information. We won't archive any information provided either. Pixpet will not accept responsibility for the individual actions of its users, although the mishandling of personal information will result in immediate termination of the offender's account.


  • COPPA (Children Online Privacy Protection Act): This event is intended for Pixpet.net members who are age 18 or over. If at any point we have reason to believe that a participant is under the age of 18, they will be removed from the event, the personal information that they provided will be deleted, and they will be suspended from all future Pixpet.net events. Parents, if you believe that your child under 18 has filled out this form, please contact us via moderation@pixpet.net and we will delete their form (and thereby any personal data they entered). However, if an underage participant goes undetected for the entire event, Pixpet.net cannot be held responsible for any misuse of their personal information by their Santa (the random participant who'll receive their information).

what a great idea and event!

Two questions though:
1) What are the rough price-tag guidelines? Especially with an international exchange, having a price-range of intended gifts is sure to avoid disappointments down the line...
2) is there any way to indicate that we'd prefer to send to people in a specific region? I.e. for Germany, having a recipient within the EU incurs much less shipping cost than outside it, and I'd assume similar things are true for other countries... (and 'prefer' wouldn't mean "I'll only send within the EU" but "if possible, I'd prefer to be matched with someone within the EU)

Is it ok if we ship someone a gift through online sites like Amazon? I want to participate but i cannot drive and i cannot justify this to my parents who would have to come to my place and pick me up if i were to ship it myself.

The price target should be ~$25 total.
We also try to avoid international shipping. There's a question in the form that asks you about exactly this: If you can ship internationally or only in specific regions!

:O! I just checked the form out, donno if I can enter yet or not, but I think something is missing, could we add a spot to describe any allergies that people may have, so people could avoid gifting them something with allergens if possible? (ie: cats, polyester, cigarette smoke, etc.)

similarly, a spot to include if the place people are staying at would carry allergens on the gift, like I don't know if i can ship to someone whos super allergic to dogs, my dog's hair is probably on every square inch of this place

From what I understand, you want to order from amazon and send it from there directly to your giftee?
I don't see much of a problem with this! Though keep in mind that your package might get opened early this way!

There's a part for all other information that someone should know about, this field can be used for stuff like allergies.

I don't want this to be like "I have to hit exactly the amount". Originally, I didn't set a price rage/target since I don't want to pressure anyone, therefor the target is only a recommendation.
You don't have to hit this target. You can go below it if you can't affort that much. And if you want to go all out, you can do that too.
The important thing here is the though put behind this event, gifting others and making them happy!

Yep, thank you! And yeah i do understand. What i get may or may not even show up till December since i'll be getting it in November, depending on where the person i'm buying for lives and where the item i'm getting is coming from. But i don't really mind too much if they do. I just wish Amazon would tape their notes to the package instead of putting it inside.

Irrelevant but fun thing:


Now, there are real technical difficulties I need to figure before being logical for me to enter. That's international shipping.

Shipping to Venezuela is... A joke. 40-50 US$/lb using DHL (1 week handling), 10 US$/lb using USA-VEN couriers in Florida (1 month handling) or free shipping by International Postal Service (3 months handling with 50% possibilities of it getting lost. Know it, constantly buying from AliExpress).

It's really easy for me thinking on buying through eBay, Amazon or AliExpress for give the gift, but don't want to make the person who is going to give me a gift to go into a hell for send a parcel

The only solution I can think for now is you contacting me when the time comes, asking the question 'How a person from X country can send you a gift?'. That way, secretness is still held, and I can assist that person for the experience being as smooth as possible.
