When they made the change to the auction I told the admins how easy it is to make more profit now, even sent them my minimal bid list that allows for the most profit while keeping the next bid forced to the break even price. So far all the people that have been underselling their pixpet eggs on a daily basis said they didn't care about profit. Though I have noticed newer account under selling as well so those unaware would set their price lower due to seeing someone else setting their starting price lower then the instant sell price. I can tell you the profit may not be much short term but long term you build up profit fast passively by buying the under priced pixpet eggs and selling them back to the server.
