Open the spoiler for Merrilee's story!
(Warning: Text-Heavy)
Even as a young little Canisqua, Merrilee (Lee) was always on the serious side. She seemed to be a natural-born leader, taking on the mature chores and requirements of adulthood before she was even older than a puppy. While she didn't seem to enjoy it, she gravitated towards such things like a moth to a flame, using a level-headed mind and a strong insight to do what she felt was right.
As more members began to join the group, she took on the flag of leadership and aimed her pack towards victory, snatching up eggs and potions that could further the pack's reputation. She grew older and eventually evolved into a Luputrix, her larger size and wilder appearance being a useful deterrent for dissent within her ranks. She led well, taking care of each member as if they were her everything, not necessarily out of kindness but a deep sense of obligation to care for those she considered unable to take care of themselves.
Despite her knack for doing the right thing and utilizing good morals when and where she could, everyone could see it would take only the slightest push to set her in the wrong direction. For Lee didn't truly care about being good, she simply did so because she felt that was what she was supposed to do. But what if she felt like she should do something else? Maybe sneak a little more PC for her own use - it would be for the good of the whole pack, right? She was the highest leveled, so why not keep a larger ration of food in her own space - it only made sense she got the most, right? If these thoughts started, no one was sure if they would stop, as no one's opinions seemed to affect her, whether good, bad, or in between. Her only critic - and advisor - was herself. Even her oldest friend Reyinshah couldn't sway her once Lee put her mind to something.
But when one lives as long as Lee, chances for such things to occur are more than likely as time goes on. No one was sure when it began to happen, but many suspect it was the ever-increasing growth of the pack. One more member here, and another there. A Sawrotag, a Mobath - multiple new mouths to feed and no skill or drive to help the pack survive. More and more to take care of, more space needed, more plants to grow, more mischievous Pixpets to keep in line. So much PC and potions to watch over and be sure that no Pixpet stole them away for their own gain. It was getting to be too much stress. And Lee could no longer handle it, not in the same gentler way she used to.
Her demeanor stayed the same, as did her level voice, but if actions truly speak louder than words, then her actions shouted at the top of their lungs. All the goodness inside of her seemed to be leaking out, leaving only a black pit behind in its place. A darkness that was always there, but was hidden just from sight.
And so the harsh times began...
