Pixpet Traits

I do love the casual nature of pixpet, but a problem I'm already seeing is how similar pixpets are to other pixpets. Aside from mini details, the only things that contribute to their gameplay are color groups and WU. All color groups already have a minimum amount and combined with WU you can get every item just by using a small amount of Pixpet species and proper resources. This means any pixpet can do the same job that almost any other pixpet can. A Black Tuxo even though rarer and takes longer to hatch has the same usage as a common Black Velibolt. The same relationship also affects Ponyata and Girafira and many other pixpets. This is of course is ok, but it doesn't make any other pixpet species anymore special than their worth when compared to pixpets that are similar to them. Because of this players don't often switch their Pixpets and try them out because they already their main Pixpets able to handle anything they want. A player that likes yellow items a lot could just have a team of a Yellow Drax (0-30), Yellow Rootax (30-60), Yellow Girafira (61-91), and a Yellow Finngriff (70-100).


So I propose an idea to give species a special trait which are passive abilities that affect their gameplay, which will not only help with this but open up to much more possibilities to make each pixpet special.



Traits can be viewed on the page directly or the pixdex so if a player doesn't have the pixpet they can just view their pixdex to find the trait they like if they are looking for one to help them.

Multiple pixpets can have the same trait though unlike WUs or color groups, if a trait has too much pixpets that have it for whatever reason they can be balanced by giving/making new traits.

Multiple traits for each species such as a 50-50 chance for whatever trait could work though it would most likely be the same situation with colors and gender ratios where the player would have to constantly hunt a certain pixpet so they can match the Color Group, Gender, Trait they desire or an item that can reroll which I think is not the best idea as most of these items cost a lot of resources and players may find that some traits are a disadvantage to them though they have to keep them.

Example Traits:

Hibernate - This Pixpet rests longer than usual, but they require less Pixpet Food
(Pangox, Armospike, Doealith, Shluppbun)

Early Bird - During the day (hours 8 AM - 8 PM) this Pixpet takes shorter rests
(Sunobra)

Night Owl - During the night (hours 8 PM - 8 AM) this Pixpet takes shorter rests
(Nightshade Sunobra, Owluck, Royowl)

Berry Gatherer - This Pixpet will usually find Blueberry and Bearberry seeds
(Unicubb, Ursufuzz)

Tropical Gatherer - This Pixpet will usually find Mini Banana and Dragonfruit seeds
(Troffinch, Parrogrine, Tuxo)

Vanity - This Pixpet will find items with higher rarity, the rarer their color group the better this effect
(Fluffpaxa, Girafira)

Levitate - This Pixpet will take slightly less time on their hoards
(Pandstar)

Legendary Scouter - This Pixpet has a slightly higher chance of finding other Legendary Pixpets
(Finngriff, Noo-Long, Albino Noo-Long, Xeldron, Albino Xeldron)

This is a pretty interesting idea, though I have to admit that my mind went to something else for the traits! I think I'd personally like to see the traits affect what kind of items you find as well as the passive effects.

For example:
Digger/Excavator- (Pangox, Shluppbun)
Finds items hidden underground (vegetables, gems, scrap metal, etc.)

Swimmer- (Sawrotag)
Finds items only found in water. (Pirate treasure, sea-based ingredients, seashells, pearls, etc.)

Flyer- (Troffinch, Tuxo, Finnigriff, etc.)
Finds items in high/hard to reach places. (Cloud motes, fuit on tall trees, kites, etc.)

By no means a full list, but I'd definitely have to plan things a lot more if the type of items I got were dependent upon where they were found and who could get them.

@Klaora, I was going for that too but mixing it with others that aren't related to passive effects would also be nice. For example Berry and Tropical Gatherer would mostly be just for people that are hunting down specific seeds while traits like Hibernate would be for players that don't really care about resting time though they need to save on Pixpet Food.

I'd definitely support this. Making each pixpet have a unique purpose. Maybe it could tie into pixpet breeding? Doubt we will be getting stuff like this anytime soon though. Wouldn't support the legendary scouter trait, maybe something else.

@Ricohard, it could I was thinking this too, but if breeding was a thing there would have to be an incentive to breed, and since of course pixpets don't battle each other you would have to make something else because otherwise it just makes pixpets less common. Trait effects so even the traits themselves are slightly different would encourage a breeding system.

I really like the idea with the traits. Although I'm not sure if it is useful to apply it to hoards? I'm currently thinking about a big new feature to give the pixpets more personality and traits could play a good role in this.

@Komodo, hoards are one of the main features for Pixpets so I was thinking if each species would have their own ability they should revolve around hoards, but if you know a way that they don't revolve around hoards and are still useful it would still work! Looking forward for that personality update if you do decide to do one. Its currently one of the highest suggestions with around 20 votes to give them events/personalities.

1. 'appraising' or 'sharp eyed' for a few of the species, so they find more of those liquid gem vials or higher grades of them. :O
2. 'sweet tooth' for taffygliders and ponyatas where they're more likely to find items that are food-themed or otherwise associated with sweet smells n tastes.
3. 'stockpile' where they refund food pellets after returning from hoarding (so you'd have to have em on hand to start with)
4. 'nursing' where they bring back more pix eggs?

Glutton: requires more pellets, finds heavier items more often
Zen Tea: placing tea in room with Noo Long causes it to levitate or fly around the room occasionally, time interval decreases with more placed tea

Its been a while so i'm going to bump this. I imagine traits like Sweet Tooth would need to be publicly stated as Food Themed can be hard to tell so something like Plant Products or just exactly saying Caramel Toffees and Vanilla Pods would be a better approach.

I don't want these to be how they are with majority of the Potions where it just says it increases the chances, but we don't really know how. Something like +10% chance to these items somewhere in the trait details would be nice.

I just want to say that I absolutely love the idea of traits. Even where they make minimal impact, I just generally enjoy adding more "flavor" and uniqueness to an individual Pixpet!

I think I would actually prefer if the traints weren't so much linked to the species but more to the individual pet. I think this would give each pet more of an unique feel since the pool of possible traits for each pet would be bigger^^
Of course there could be some traits that require a pet to have certain physical qualities (like wings) and they should only occur in certain species..

I don't see the added cost in 'rerolling' a trait as a negative... I think people reach the endgame quicker than new content is added so more possible 'projects' are a good thing in my opinion.^^ ( There should not be outright disadvantagous traits though because new players might get stuck with them when they only have a couple of pets and can't easily replace them)
