I keep finding tiny errors in my gallery uploads such as unshaded parts or pixels that I forgot to turn transparent, so it'd be great to be able to change the image file you uploaded after the image has already been approved.

The idea is that if a change is minor enough, mods can approve it, otherwise they have the right to decline any changes if they change up the original image too much, that way no one can take advantage of this feature. No changes will be visible until they have been approved.

Edit approval wouldn’t be an issue as long as the original, and new image are both in the view when waiting for approval.
