Take a wild guess.

It's my favorite because I love cute lizards, but also it was the first Pokémon I ever saw! When I was a kid, I was flipping through Nintendo Power and happened across an article on Pokémon. I didn't read it, but saw Charmander there, with arrows pointing to its evolutions. Because I didn't read the article and didn't pay attention to anything else in it, my assumption was that it was like a Wriggler from the Mario games, where if you made it mad, it changed into a more dangerous form, and assumed the game was something like the Zelda games.

Fast forward to a month or so later when I see Pokémon on TV, and I become interested in it to the point where my mom buys me Red. And what is the first starter that I see? None other than the one I first laid eyes on when I was browsing through a magazine. AND MY LIFE WAS FOREVER CHANGED...
