Through trick of numbers. Averaging when done properly can increase grade of items without loss of the higher grades. For example, averaging a g99 with 2 g100 will raise the 99 to 100. It’s not only in small increases, as long as the grade difference is lower or equal to the quantity divided by two of the higher graded one, there will be no loss.

To illustrate, averaging 1 g80 with 40 g100 will net you a g100, but using 39 g100 will give you g99 and bring down the others. 2(100-80) = 40 Keep in mind if you average 2 g80 you will need 80 g100.

If you’re not sure go get a calculator, as long as the result is larger than +0.5 you’ll get it bumped up a grade. (99.5 exactly gets you 99 though)
