It's one of my favourite series. I think dragonadopters might be one of the reasons I like it so much, since the writing reminds me of some of the roleplay threads i used to read back on DrA. Nostalgia aside, I find the series is really enjoyable. Characters are likeable and real, and I really like the fact that death does happen without the series becoming too gritty or edgy. I also think it's a neat idea to swap characters each book so that they're all fleshed out throughout the course of the series. I definitely think the first five books of the series were the strongest but I still am reading the series as it's written. I don't think writing is the series strong suit, it's written very simply without much depth, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. It doesn't take much away from the plot and it helps the books reach a wider audience. The wordbuilding is probably the series strongest aspect. It is very effective at making the world feel lived in and tangible. It definitely helps that rather than constantly moving forward the plot the series has points where it stops to show the characters interacting with their surroundings. |

I only got to read the last 2 books in the original series a couple months ago, but I really enjoyed them! I agree, it was a good idea to swap out the character telling the story over each book- it did help me understand each of them a bit more. :) And the worldbuilding was great as well! Who's your favorite character? |

I also like clay but he’s a bit too simple with his food gag. I think it might be sunny, she just seems really seeet and I can definitely relate to feeling helpless and trying to live up to expectations (the prophecy) |

I was just so into the story that I basically spent the whole day reading. XD While the series can have some low points I do think it is very enjoyable and definitely more positive than negative. I own all the main series books and Legends: Darkstalker, and I'm expecting my copy of The Hive Queen to arrive within the next few days. I even have the visual novel and pre-ordered the second one too. My favorite characters are Glory, Peril and Turtle. My favorite book is definitely The Lost Heir, with second and third being Moon Rising and The New Continent. |

I stopped when the first arc ended with the original Dragonets, it was REALLY good. I feel like I can't immerse myself as well in the next arc with the Nightwing, so it's been a while since I've read the books. |

I'm only on book two because I work full time and struggle with chronic fatigue, so I haven't had a whole lot of time to focus on books. I like the premise, I enjoy the characters as long as I keep in mind that the books are probably geared towards a younger audience (I'm creeping towards middle-age). I think the writing is very simple and it does bother me at times, but I remind myself of the above and for the most part I enjoy it. I like the different types of dragons, though I wish there was a little more...mystery? Complexity? I feel like as soon as a dragon or dragonet suspects something it's confirmed. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of lead-up (see: Peril's mother, some other things). But like the OP said, that simplicity opens the books up to a wider range of readers, perhaps. I adore Tsunami and Glory. I feel like they're deeper characters than some of the others, like Clay. I get it, he likes food and he doesn't think that deep, which is fine but he feels very two-dimensional. There are better books about dragons out there, but I'm still enjoying them! |
